Annabelle is a prequel/spin-off of The Conjuring. It’s being produced by James Wan (director of The Conjuring) and directed by Wan’s frequent cinematographer John R. Leonetti. Stylistically I really like the serious, 70’s horror film tone of the trailer. Possessed dolls can easily veer into cheesy territory, but Leonetti appears to know how to get the maximum amount of dread and tense moments out of something as dumb as a doll. Annabelle hits theaters October 3rd, 2014.
