A source at /Film claims that the new Gremlins isn’t just a remake, but a “sequel-style reboot set 30 years after the original.” It seems as though Chris Columbus, the original writer for ‘Gremlins’, may be set to produce the “re-quel” although nothing has been officially announced.  Columbus expressed concerns a few years back about what the film would loose if the Gremlins were recreated using CGI, so let’s just hope him and Spielberg (who’s also expected to be involved) push hard enough to use animatronic puppets again. The story is set to be very similar to the first film, and follows a boy who receives a “strange pet” for Christmas.  Head over to /Film for that Columbus quote on CGI’d Gremlins and more details.
