Emmy Award-Winning Actor Richard Dysart Dies at 86

This has not been a good week for the horror community.

Richard Dysart, best known for his Emmy-winning portrayal of Leland McKenzie in L.A. Law, has died at the age of 86. According to his wife Kathryn Jacobi, he passed away Sunday after a long battle with cancer at his home in Santa Monica, California.

Dysart is best known to horror fans for dying a horrific death as Dr. Robert Allenby in John Carpenter’s The Thing.

Dysart has over 80 acting credits including roles in The Last Days of Patton, The Day of the Locust, Pale Rider, The Falcon and The Snowman, Prophecy, Warning, Mask, The Hospital, and Back To The Future Part III.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that a private memorial is being planned and in lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the outdoor theater Will Gerr Theatricum Botanicum in Los Angeles.
