Betsy Palmer, better known for her role as Pamela Voorhees in the original 1980 Friday the 13th film, passed away May 29th from natural causes.
The actress took the gig because at the time she needed to raise money for a new car. Betsy originally believed that no one would really watch the slasher film that was produced in 1980 and left the franchise early after her character died passing the iconic machete to her son Jason. The franchise since has grossed over $750 million with 12 films.
Betsy’s credits include a long list of TV series to include: Knots Landing, Murder, She Wrote, and CHiPS.
